You may have read a recent story in the local newspaper about Senate Bill 539, currently under discussion in Concord. This newly released bill specifies how the state will distribute education aid in a way that meets the demands of our state constitution. The article indicated that Antrim’s cost could go up as much as $624,359 if this bill is to pass.
However, the article did not mention the other part of the bill, which is “Disparity Aid”. Under the current status of the entire bill, not just one section of the bill, Antrim would receive $628,000 of Disparity Aid, so that our total cost would actually decrease by $3,641. The bill is far from being finalized. We are watching it carefully and will keep you informed as this bill moves through the legislature. We urge you to contact your state legislators to make your opinions known.
