Energy Drinks Discussion
The health risks of “energy drinks” to teens will be the topic of discussion at Avenue A Teen Center on 42 Main Street in Antrim on Monday, March 30 at 6:30pm. “Acting Out,” an improv group comprised of local high school students, will contribute their perspective on this issue with a performance. Adults and teens in the community are invited to attend.
Relatively new to the market but rapidly increasing in numbers, these beverages contain various levels of caffeine. As reported in an article in the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript in February, teens are using these drinks in a variety of ways: as a substitute for breakfast, to get a “buzz,” and to stay awake, and often teens are mixing “energy drinks” with alcohol and other drugs. Published information about the potential health risks “energy drinks” pose to the developing teen brain and body will be available at the meeting.
This discussion will be facilitated by local health, education and parenting professionals. For more information call Sydney at The Grapevine at 588-2620.
