Antrim Parks & Recreation Commission Minutes
January 4, 2007


Present: Sam Harding, Peter Lamb, Pat Leonard, Dave Kirkpatrick, Ron Haggett, Celeste Lunetta

Meeting was called to order 7:10pm

Celeste requested the Parks & Recreation Commissions meeting date be changed from the first Thursday of the month to the second Thursday of each month. All commission members voted in favor of the change.  The Antrim Parks & Recreation monthly meeting will be held the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7pm in the Parks & Recreation Office in the Memorial Gym Building on School St.


The 2007 CIP items for warrant article consideration submitted to the Town was reviewed. A draft of the proposed warrant articles for the 2007 Town Meeting was presented. Articles 6 & 9 mentioned Parks & Recreation items. Several commissioners have questions regarding the articles as written pertaining to each CIP item presented by our commission. In particular, the following items  $7000.00 Memorial Park skateboard equipment, $3500.00 for a scoreboard for Memorial Gymnasium, $3000.00 for an A/C unit for recreation office. In addition, discussion-included items regarding improvements to office storage cabinets, gym team bleacher seating. Some discussion ensued regarding as to whether some of the warrant articles would be written as to apply funding for said articles to our capitol reserve. Celeste indicated the writing of the Town Warrant Articles is still a work in progress and that she would contact the Town Administrator next week to get an updated version.  

Celeste noted that the town budget hearings are scheduled for Mon. Jan. 29th and Saturday Feb. 7th and encouraged all that can to attend the hearings.

Celeste mentioned items with respect to (TIF) district funding, in particular upcoming improvements to Memorial Park lighting and electrical panel improvements; In addition, Celeste sought approval for additional funding for tennis court net post replacement $500.00. The commission agreed that this item should be included in the 2007 request for (TIF) district funding.   

The Commission reviewed the Antrim in the Evening program, Celeste is to return to the board with information regarding the proposed funding available for the 2007 budget, The commission will review the viability of adding this program to our arena of oversight and responsibility at our next meeting.

Celeste indicated that Recreation Department employees met with the town administrator to review department goals and responsibilities for 2007.  Celeste mentioned that one area reviewed was the reorganization of all business sponsors with respect to all Parks & Recreation activities.

Celeste presented the Antrim Board of Selectmen’s  “Major Goals For 2007” an informative outline identifying ten major points for each of the towns departments, commissions and committee’s to take into consideration for the upcoming year.

Sam mentioned the need to review the Commission’s “Mission Statement”, this review will take into consideration the updated information provided by the 2007 Master Plan, with an anticipated release of the spring /summer of 2007.

The commission agreed that an additional meeting is required this month to address all upcoming items for town budget review and town meeting.
