Pursuant to a 100% funded grant, the Antrim Police Department will be equipped with Electro-Muscular Disruption Technology (EMDT), commonly referred to as the Taser.
This recent addition of the tools available to officers is a significant benefit when dealing with Less-Than-Lethal situations. Studies have shown that the use of Tasers have reduced workman’s compensation reports due to arrest injuries by 50%. One such study indicated a 75% reduction in the use of chemical agents and a 50% reduction in physical “hands-on” force by officers.
Albeit extremely important to outfit our police with any tools and equipment necessary to keep them safer and reduce liability to the Town, this sometimes becomes over burdensome and cost prohibitive. I am extremely pleased with the ability to provide the Antrim Police with this Less-Than-Lethal force option and with no cost to the citizens.
