PRESS RELEASE
MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH 04/19/08
At approximately 1422hrs on 04/19/08, The Antrim Police Department as well as the Antrim Fire and Rescue Squads were dispatched to the area of Route 202 and Elm Avenue for a reported single motor vehicle crash in which the vehicle was on fire. Upon arrival of Police Personnel it was determined that the crash vehicle was fully involved in flames on the property located at #160 Route 202 (also known as Concord Street).
It was determined the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle had escaped unharmed and was ambulatory upon police arrival. He was identified as Joseph M. Giza, 41 years old of 106 Gould Hill Road Greenfield, NH. He was driving a 1988 BMW 535 owned by Steven Ellis of Amherst, NH.
The investigation revealed that Mr. Giza was traveling south on Route 202 when he attempted to overtake another southbound vehicle in a legal passing zone. However, the vehicle's tire blew out causing Mr. Giza to lose control. The vehicle left the roadway off the south shoulder of the road before coming to rest in the ditch. It eventually caught fire and was completely destroyed.
Mr. Giza was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. His arraignment was set for 06/02/08 at 0830hrs at the Henniker District Court-Hillsborough Session. He was released on $1000.00 personal recognizance bail.
