The February 20th program meeting of Antrim Grange #98 is entitled "The Grange and Gridlock in Washington" and will be presented by guest speaker and Antrim resident, Dr. Stephen Ullman. His talk will center around these themes: 1. events during Antrim summers which led him to choose a career in teaching Political Science; 2. the history of the Grange and its role in shaping public policy; 3. the diminishing role of agriculture advocacy groups; 4. the problems which groups such as the Grange are having in getting a farm bill out of the
current Congress; 5. the role of interest groups in American national government and politics; and 6. the "gridlock" in Washington.
Dr. Ullman is a multi-decorated professor of Political Science and International Studies, having joined the staff at the State University of New York at Brockport in 1970. His distinct sense of humor and unique teaching style will be sure to captivate and engage the audience.
This event will take place at the Antrim Town Hall at 7:00 p.m. Grangers, historians, agriculturalists, and the public are all welcome. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the program.
Then, on February 27th, we will sponsor a Meet the Candidates Night at the Town Hall at 7:00 p.m. All candidates running for a town position are invited and encouraged to participate.
This is an opportunity for the voters of Antrim to have a chance to gather information from their prospective elected officials at one convenient time and place. The event also gives candidates a chance to share their message face to face with the citizens of Antrim. The meeting will be moderated by Grange member, Arthur Merrill.
