ANTRIM ECLECTIC BOOK CLUB

Pearl Buck’s exploration of rural family life in early 20th century China won the Pulitzer Prize.  For a discussion of Buck’s novel,  please join us on Thursday, May 18, 2023 between 2:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. at the James A. Tuttle Library.

Among the questions Club members will probe on the 18th are:

  1. What are Buck’s primary messages?
  2. Isn’t smothering your daughter always an unforgivable sin?
  3. Do American missionaries deserve the stinging mockery    Buck accords them?
  4. Wang Lung’s family seem to disconnect from the land.  Is this a tragedy or simply an inevitable consequence of modernization?

The Antrim Eclectic Book Club meets  every third Thursday each month  between 2:15 PM and 3:15 PM at the James A Tuttle library. Free copies of the books described above will be available at the Library. For further information please email Steve Ullman at stephenhullman@gmail.  We warmly welcome newcomers to our book lovers’ group.
