Pearl Buck on China
Event Date:
Thursday, May 18, 2023 - 2:15pm to 3:15pm
ANTRIM ECLECTIC BOOK CLUB
Pearl Buck’s exploration of rural family life in early 20th century China won the Pulitzer Prize. For a discussion of Buck’s novel, please join us on Thursday, May 18, 2023 between 2:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. at the James A. Tuttle Library.
Among the questions Club members will probe on the 18th are:
- What are Buck’s primary messages?
- Isn’t smothering your daughter always an unforgivable sin?
- Do American missionaries deserve the stinging mockery Buck accords them?
- Wang Lung’s family seem to disconnect from the land. Is this a tragedy or simply an inevitable consequence of modernization?
The Antrim Eclectic Book Club meets every third Thursday each month between 2:15 PM and 3:15 PM at the James A Tuttle library. Free copies of the books described above will be available at the Library. For further information please email Steve Ullman at stephenhullman@gmail. We warmly welcome newcomers to our book lovers’ group.
