Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes for 10-8-20 Meeting

Present: Joan Gorga, Celeste Lunetta, Isaac Lombard (Chair)

Minutes approved from last meeting 2-0

Town Gym

Zumba will happen Monday and Wednesday.  Pickle ball wants to start up again.  Basketball is looking to start up but it seems hard to have a safe environment given current safety guidelines.

Shea Field

The portable toilets are getting used more.  One was brought down from the Greg Lake.  The field is getting used a lot.  Soccer is going for AES and town kids.  Pre-K-4.  The school is being better about litter pickup.  The Teen Center carpenters have volunteered to fix boards in the dugouts.  AES and GBS field use requests have been approved for next month.

Memorial Park

Eagle Scout Project done.  He will be donating 5 balls to the Rec Department.  Lyons Club wanted to do an event.  Weeds are in the pathways.  Celeste applied vinegar and soap.  The skate park is getting heavily used.  All trash cans were pulled from the park a couple of weeks ago.  It is now carry in, carry out.  Colin of the skate park wants repairs done by a skater when repairs are needed to the skate park.  The commission tried to involve Colin but unsafe features need to be fixed in a timely manner.  A box made of pallets will be asked to be removed since it accumulates trash and wasn’t approved.  Kevin Proctor wants to get a basketball hoop at the tennis court because the ones in the skate park are effectively unusable.  Celest will meet with Kevin to go over details.

Goodell Park

The truck is gone.

Greg Lake

The Teen Center builders will build another lifeguard chair and fix the wobbly railing.  The Lake is still getting used a lot.  Picknick tables by the boat launch are appealing and easy to see.  Some local young people have been seen trying to run over the loons with a motor boat.  The kayak rack is getting attention.  It needs to be moved into place. The fire request was denied and the event was moved to a resident’s back yard.

Walking Trail

Right of way (ROW) needs more researching.

Rec Department Update

Disc golf baskets around town for a town “course”? They are about $200 each.  Get 2 if there’s budget.

Antrim looking to be part of the holiday lights tour with Amherst, Fitzwilliam, Rindge, Jaffrey, etc.  Halloween decorating contest is going on. Tai Chee is looking for a coach.  Rec budget is being worked on at end of month.  Donna is looking into the terms and expiration of commissioners.
