Death Records

Certified Abstract of a Death

NH vital records are considered to be private and access to them is restricted to those individuals with a "direct and tangible interest" in a record in accordance with NH Stature.

To obtain a certified copy of a death, you must provide the following information in writing:

  • Name of Deceased
  • Date of death
  • Place of birth
  • Mother's maiden name
  • Father's name
  • Purpose for the certificate
  • Relationship to the Deceased

The cost of a search for vital record is $15.00. If a record is found after the search, a certified copy will be issued free of charge. Additional certified copies of the same record, ordered at the same time, are available at the cost of $10.00 each.

Death records prior to 1948 are exempt from these access restrictions. You can access these records through the local town clerk or through the Bureau of Vital Records Geneology Center in Concord, NH. The center is open to the public at 8:15 - 11:45 am and 12:15 - 4:15 pm Monday through Friday (vault closes at 3:30 pm on Wednesday). Volunteers will assist you in your search.
