Water & Sewer
November 8, 2023
Dear Antrim Sewer Customer,
The wastewater that is collected in the Antrim Sewer system is treated in a series of lagoons and then discharged to the Contoocook River. Our treatment system operates under a permit from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and is updated every 5 years. In our most recent permit renewal, the amount of lead that we are allowed to discharge to the Contoocook was reduced. Under our previous system of operation, the effluent that was discharged to the river did not meet this new permit requirement and with assistance from Underwood Engineers we have been testing alternative treatment options to be in compliance with our new permit. We will need to make some permanent changes to our treatment system that require additional chemicals and treatment processes. Due to the increase in costs to treat our effluent as well as general inflation the commissioners voted to raise sewer rates by 20%. These new rates will be reflected in your November 2023 water & sewer bill. Sewer rates have not increased since June of 2016. It’s not an easy decision to raise rates but we hope you understand our decision.
Sincerely,
The Antrim Water and Sewer Commissioners
