On Thursday April 20, 2023, at 2:15 p.m. James A.Tuttle Library, Antrim readers will be discussing Barbara Kingsolver’s Poisonwood Bible.

In this 1959 best-selling novel, an unbalanced Baptist minister transports his entire family from Georgia to the Belgian Congo in order to convert a village of nonbelievers He is so dogmatic that he turns away his potential converts and imperils his wife and four daughters.

Among the questions Book Club members may discuss on April 20th are:

1. What is the primary message Kingsolver is presenting?

2. What does the poisonwood tree represent?

3. How does the Congo change each member of the Price family?

4. Nathan Price does not have a voice in this novel. What do you think of Kingsolver’s decision to relate the narrative through the women members of the Price family?

The Antrim Eclectic Book Club meets on the third Thursday each month between 2:15 PM and 3:15 PM at the James A Tuttle library.
