Lighting the Stage Workshop on 12th
The Antrim Players Workshop (1 of 2)
Please RSVP for the first Workshop about learning Lighting/Staging by 08/08/2023
Event Date:
Tuesday, August 8, 2023 (All day)

Friends,

As you may have heard, the Antrim Players are in the process of starting up again after several years of hibernation. We currently have several things in the works and this is where you come in. We have been working with the newly established Antrim Community Board (ACB) and over the past several months, we have had a number of new people step up to say they want to be involved.

You might remember that the last few shows we performed, it was very difficult to find people who wanted to do all the other things that needed to be done to produce a show, other than acting. Our main focus while working with the ACB, was to establish a good pool of people to handle all the other aspects of the stage. Hopefully, this new group of people will help us get back on the stage. Below is what we currently have planned.

Step 1 -Workshops

The Antrim Players are back and we have 2 workshops planned for August.  Lighting the Stage, Saturday, August 12 and Set Design and Construction, Sunday, August 20. Both workshops will begin at 10:00 am and will take place upstairs at Town Hall.

Lighting the Stage is more straightforward than it may look. We'll cover what's involved with hanging lights, running cabling, using a lightboard, as well as some basics on how to plan a lighting setup.
Don't feel like you have to love heights to learn about stage lighting - there's plenty to do on solid ground.

Set Design and Construction is for those looking to express their creative side. Set design must always suit the play. It should create the strongest possible effect with the least effort and expense.

We'll cover sightlines, scenery, equipment, doors, furniture, construction, painting and more! No experience needed.

If you would like to join us for one or both of these workshops, please reserve your spot by emailing us at
antrimplayers@gmail.com by
August 8 for Lighting the Stage
August 15 for Set Design and Construction.

Both of these workshops are free and refreshments will be provided.

Step 2 - Script Readings

Our next step is to get those of you who would like to act to join us for an evening or two to read some scripts. The Tuttle Library has offered their space to us and we are looking at September for our first read.

If you would like to be a part of this, email us back at antrimplayers@gmail.com and we'll be sure to let you know the date and time. Also, if you have any ideas for scripts that you would like us to consider for a reading or possibly to perform on stage in the future, send those along too.

Step 3 - Our next performance

Depending on the outcome of the 2 previous steps, we will discuss our next step which could be to choose a play and dates and schedule auditions. If we have a good turnout for the workshops and readings, we could possibly consider a show in the fall or later in the year. If the first 2 steps are duds, then we will have to seriously think about where we go from here.

Actors needed for the Antrim Walking Tour!

On a separate note: On Saturday, September 16 at 10am and Sunday, September 17 at 1pm, the Antrim Historical Society will be giving a walking tour of South Antrim. This tour will go from the area of the library, down Depot Street, across Water Street and then back up Main Street to the library (approximately 2 hours). They are looking for a few actors each day (you could do both days or just one day), to take on roles of Antrimites of the past. You would be stationed at one point along the tour, provided with a fact sheet about the person you are portraying, and then would talk to the people as they arrived about what it was like to live and work back then in Antrim during the late 1800s or early 1900s. Once they move along, your job will be done. You will be provided with a costume and refreshments will be provided at the end of the tour at the library. Contact the Historical Society at antrimhistoricalsociety@gmail.com for more information.

We hope you will consider joining us at the workshops or readings and of course the tour.

Let's work to keep the Antrim Players alive for another 100 years.
