Eclectic Book Club - Water for Elephant
ANTRIM ECLECTIC BOOK CLUB
On Thursday October 19, 2023, between 2:15 and 3:15 p.m., at the James A. Tuttle Library, Book Club members will be discussing Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephant. This book takes place during the Depression. It narrates how a Cornell veterinary student falls in love with a married circus performer while both are appearing in a third-rate, traveling circus. The narrative ends with a fatal stampede of the animal performers.
Among the questions Club members will probe on the 18th are:
- What are Gruen’s primary messages?
- Should the murder outlined in this book be punished?
- What do you think of Jacob’s final decision at the end of the book?
The Antrim Eclectic Book Club meets every third Thursday each month between 2:15 PM and 3:15 PM at the James A Tuttle library. Free copies of the books described above will be available at the Library. For further information please email Steve Ullman at stephenhullman@gmail. We warmly welcome newcomers to our book lovers’ group.
