Antrim Parks and Recreation Commission (PARC) Meeting Minutes

July 09, 2020

Present: Robert Edwards, Isaac Lombard (Chair), Celeste Lunetta, Christine Morris, Tim Morehouse (community member)

7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Gregg Lake

Agenda

Minutes:  April 7th minutes were approved with the addition of information regarding the CIP.

Gregg Lake:

• PARC toured the facility while Celeste described the new protocols for social distancing and cleaning.

• The facility has been well used and most people are compliant with the new protocols.

• Due to the large use of the facilities the porta-pots have seen increased use.  If Celeste deems it necessary she may lease an additional unit.

• There was some discussion about improving the condition of the far end the beach to make a picnic spot.  There will be no beach access from there.

• Celeste proposed expanding the dog beach area to increase distance between groups.  The commission approved this change as long there is still adherence to the town ordinance regarding dogs on the point.

• Robert pointed out that there are no signs regarding the dog policy.  Celeste has the signs and will put them up.

• Celeste reported that increasing the staff presence until 7 pm has cut down on the morning clean-up of wine and beer debris.

• Due to CoVid  pandemic some of the staff did not receive Life Guard Training.  Celeste would like to investigate having some additional staff trained now that things are easing up.

• Tim Morehouse generously constructed and donated two picnic tables to the beach operation.

Shea Field

• There has been a lot of community use of the fields as well as Rec Dept. programs during the last month.

• Robert asked if the irrigation timer and heads are in good working order.  Celeste reported that everything is in good operational condition and we are seeing a higher than normal water usage due to the drought conditions.

• The field has been fertilized and weeded over the last month.  Celeste is trying to improve the spots with some drought damage. There is some poison ivy but there are currently no funds for control.  The idea of using goats was suggested.  Celeste will investigate the viability of this option.

• GBS has not yet submitted an updated use request form with more specific times.

• Celeste will reach out to AES and GBS Principals to make sure that planning for the next school year is in line with our use agreement.

Town Gym

• Danaher flooring will be in to buff and recoat the gym floor in the next couple of weeks.

• PARC reviewed the revised agreement with ConVal and voted to not accept the agreement as revised.

• Celeste will reach out to AES Principal to make sure that planning for the next school year is in line with our use agreement.

Memorial Park

• Michael Redmond has marked out the location of the Gaga pit and is awaiting approval from the PARC.  Isaac will reach out to him to formally give him approval.

Goodell Park

• Celeste has noticed there are some invasive plants growing in the park.  She will look into control measures.

• A question was posed regarding the vehicle being parked in the vicinity of Goodell Park.  Is this vehicle parked on town or private property?  Dario will be consulted regarding the property lines.

Rec Department Update

• Summer camp enrollment numbers are low.

• Swimming lessons will be offered and are starting the week of July 13th.
