Antrim Parks and Rec Commission Meeting
September 26, 2019


In attendance: Mike Genest, Celeste Lunetta, Isaac Lombard, Christine Daisy.

Minutes: Approval of July minutes: Minutes approved. August meeting was not held due to no quorum.

Business:

Gregg Lake
Beach/Point/Boat Launch: Celeste reported that the toilet in the smaller bathroom had a backup. Further example to necessity of rehabbing bathhouse. Discussion of use of funds from grant and possible wind farm.

Water testing: Ecoli tests performed in August were again all good.
Watershed Management Plan: Celeste reported that at GLA meeting they pledged funding towards the projects being proposed by the WM Taskforce.

Budget

  1. CIP: Submitted
  2. Department: Submitted, slightly up for chemical toilets, and Beach.

Town Gym

3. Gym floor sand & repaint: Gym was inspected by the group. There are some marks where the Pound Class participants are hitting the floor with their sticks. Celeste reports she put that class on hold until they got protective tips, which the instructor ordered immediately. The group agreed that there was much improvement to the condition of the floor. Celeste reported that a school district employee asked the floor company to add to the gym floor lines without any discussion to the town, The company complies with the district employees request, consequently creating a slight diversion away from the official basketball court markings.

Action Item: The commission discussed keeping Danaher flooring as the contractor for annual buff and recoat, for consistency, and especially in light of the water based finish.

It was proposed and voted unanimously to recommend that the Town of Antrim hire Danaher to perform the yearly buff and coat, and approach the district with negotiation to share the cost of the outside contractor.

4. Home & Harvest pickleball: This program was successful and Celeste is working with a representative from the Pickleball group to have some gym time in Antrim.

5. Other: Roller skating nights will not be held in the Antrim Town Gym at least through the remainder of 2019.

Shea Field

6. ConVal request to use lights: Nothing formal received.

7. Pitching wall: Waiting for the contractor to have time to dig the post holes and pour the cement. Dig safe has been to site, and Celeste will be marking the area where the light pole conduits are.

8. Home & Harvest: Approximately 500 people attended the Friday night event. Positive reports from many different people.

9. Maintenance/Other: Celeste has been managing the infield weeds, and some turf weeds as well. Rep from Tom Irwin will be visiting to consult in October.

Other: Discussion of GBS use requests for after school sports and in school Field Day.
Discussion of communication between Town and District.
 

Memorial Park

10. Tennis: Celeste reported meeting with a representative of USTennis Association, including some oinformation
about the parameters of the USTA Court building grants, and the NET Generation program.

11. Antrim In The Evening: Nothing new to report

12. Gagaball pit: Celeste read email from M.Redmond describing his progress with fundraising, It is likely that the
building of this pit will not be started until 2020.

13. Scottman Jam Skate Event: Event went off without any trouble reported to Celeste. C.Isotti has a revised request
for a seating area, he is proposing a platform deck on the East side of the court, by the Ash tree. Commission
requests that Colin come to a meeting to describe his idea and get feedback.

14. Maintenance/Other: Celeste reports a citizen call that the graffiti on the skatepark represents a group that
promotes violence and divisive values. Celeste passed information along to Antrim PD and removed the graffiti.

Walking Trail

15. Update: Action Item: Group will walk some town property right after the October meeting, date and time TBS.

Rec Dept

16. Update: Eren Pils-Martin will be joining the Rec Department staff year round, sharing the Assistant hours. She brings availability during the day, and a strong computer skill set and community building attitude.

17. A fall brochure has been printed.

General

18. Any other business: Discussion regarding regional recreation.
