We will be examining John Fowles’ The Magus.  This is an account of a young British teacher, stranded with his students on a bleak Greek island, who falls under the influence of a mysterious wizard.  Kind of a 1950’s Harry Potter tale.

Here are the August 26th The Magus discussion questions

1.  What kind of a person is Nicholas?   What is he running to?  Running from?
2.   What is the rationale for Conchis’s masquerade?
3.  What points about human existence is Fowles making?
4.  What is the meaning of the novel’s ending?
