Antrim Eclectic Book Club held at the Tuttle Library
Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

In this 1959 best-selling novel, an unbalanced Baptist minister transports his entire family from Georgia to the Belgian Congo in order to convert a village of nonbelievers  He is so dogmatic that he turns away his potential converts and imperils his wife and four daughters.

Among the questions Book Club members may discuss on April 20th are:

1.   What is the primary message Kingsolver is presenting?

2.  What does the poisonwood tree represent?

3.  How does the Congo change each member of the Price family?

4.  Nathan Price does not have a voice in this novel.  What do you think of Kingsolver’s decision to relate the narrative through the women members of the Price family?

The Antrim Eclectic Book Club meets on the third Thursday of each month between 2:15 PM and 3:15 PM at the James A Tuttle Library. Free copies of the books described above will be available for loan at the Library. For further information please email Steve Ullman at stephenhullman@gmail.  We warmly welcome newcomers to our book lovers’ group.
