Tuttle Library Board of Trustees Meeting
February 11th, 2020

Members Present: Nancy Blair, Steve Ullman, and Rick Wood.  Also present, Library Director Cindy Jewett.

In Public Comments, Laurie McKenzie, a local artist, offered to do some murals for the library to brighten up some empty wall space. Rick moved to look into 2 small murals and Nancy seconded. Motion passed. Laurie will do some small drawings and work with Cindy, bringing the results back to the Trustees. A range of $200-$500 was discussed.

Jacqueline Roland also came to see if the library could help with space on Wednesday evenings for Avenue A Game Club. They are losing their present spot and Avenue A is booked at that time with other events. The library is closed at that time, but Cindy is willing to work with Avenue A for coverage. Trustees also offered to help as well.

Rick moved to accept the Agenda and Nancy seconded.  The motion passed.

Nancy moved and Rick seconded acceptance of the January Minutes with one grammatical correction from Steve. The motion passed.

No Treasurers Report as the Budget had been submitted the following evening at the SelectBoard Budget Hearing and had been accepted.

Library Director's Report:

  • Circulation was up again for January. Just about 1800 check-outs!
  • The library will explore looking into a baby changing table and a small stool for kids to use at the water fountain.
  • Cindy will look into a company for a “deep-cleaning” of the library.
  • Our library chili cook-off made it to the BBC and broadcast on NHPR radio, February 10th at midnight!
  • Professional Development continues for the staff: state Para-Librarian classes and lots of webinars.

The American Library Association Public Programs Office announced that the James A. Tuttle Library has been selected to receive a travel stipend for Cindy Jewett to attend the LTC: Facilitation Skills for Small and Rural Libraries  preconference at ALA's Annual Conference in Chicago on Friday, June 26th, 2020

Museum passes available to patrons for 2020:

  • Boston Museum of Fine Arts
  • Castle in the Clouds
  • Kearsarge Indian Museum
  • Montshire Museum of Science
  • NH Historical Society
  • NH State Parks

Old Business:
Library Director Evaluation ongoing.
Library Budget request accepted by the Select Board.

New Business:
A discussion of additional hours will take place for next year. The library is definitely getting busier.
Storytime is changing: the new program, which all staff are being trained in, is “Mother Goose on the Loose”. This is an interactive program.
Cindy will purchase letterhead stationary for the library.
Rick asked about the library's role in the census. The library will help people fill out the forms. That will be a very safe way to complete the forms as there are scams and fake forms out there!

Motion to adjourn by Nancy at 7:45, seconded by Rick. Motion passed.

Next Meeting: Tuesday, March 10, 2020 @ 6:30PM
