Minutes for February 14, 2023 Meeting

Present: Susan Bartlett, Nancy Blair, Steve Ullman, Rick Wood, Trustees; Cyndi Jewett, Library Director; Jennifer Adams

(In light of the illness among several Library Trustees, the Trustees decided to meet via Zoom)

A. Nancy moved acceptance of the Meeting agenda and Rick seconded. Adopted unanimously.
B. Rick moved and Nancy seconded adoption of the Minutes for the January Library Trustees meeting.  Adopted unanimously
C. Rick moved and seconded adoption of the Minutes for the special “Washington Trip” Trustees meeting.  Adopted unanimously.
D. Rick presented the Treasurer’s Report. He addressed the issue of the mandatory signatures for the Library’s bank account.
E.  Rick also reported on the Library’s receipt of Trust Funds income.
F. Cyndi “zoomed  in” her Director’s Report from Puerto Rico.   

  • Matthew Hale is working on the new phone system. 
  • Employees will be setting  up their new phones.
  • Sheila Nichols and Marcia DeSteuben have been hired; both are outstanding, well-prepared substitutes.
  • Tim Morehouse  has competed essential physical improvements to the Library structure.  Th e Library Trustees very much appreciate his exceptional work to improve the Library’s infrastructure.

Cyndi reported that last month eighty-six teenagers attended the Library.  Ths suggests that the Library should arrange programming for this constituency

G. The Friends of the Library continue to be energetically involved in Library activities.  They played an important role in “undecorating” the Library and in organizing the basement area.The Friends have arranged for several arts displays throughout the coming year.  The Trustees are most thankful for the Friends’ contributions.
H. Rick Wood moved that the Library Trustees authorize an appropriation of no more than $300 for new shelving in the upstairs office room over the sink.  Nancy seconded.  Adopted unanimously. 
I. Young Adult – Merrifield Rooms – Susan updated progress therein.  Tim Morehouse will be consulted about additional installations.  The Merrifield Room has been painted but will require additional lighting and furniture. 
J. Rick announced that the deadline for the next commemorative brick purchases will be .
K.  Festival of Trees – the Library hopes to receive for a plan for the future operation of the FOT.
L. Susan suggested several specialty areas for the several Trustees.    Nancy will maintain theTrustees’ relationships with the Friends of the Library.  Rick and Nancy will oversee the Library’s building and grounds.  Nancy will take a special interest in gardening.  Susan will look after HR and staffing matters.  Rick and Susan will manage the Library’s relations with the Select Board.  Steve will concentrate on community relations and policy.  Rick will manage the Library’s links with the Antrim historical Society.
M.The Trustees want to thank Cyndi and Melissa Lawless for their formidable work on Wes Enman’s memorial service.
N. Rick moved and Nancy second a motion to adjourn.
